Yesterday we celebrated 20 mos without any hospitalizations or ER visits. We are also celebrating 3 years pain free. Dylan is healthy! Yes of course he still has Sickle Cell Anemia SS, but he is not suffering from this life threatening disease.

Sickle Cell patients can suffer from countless complications including organ removal and stroke very early in life. I can recall vividly the hematologist training me to check Dylan’s spleen when he was 6 weeks old. The social worker gave us countless pamphlets on how to watch for signs of stroke and how important it was to bring him to the ER for fevers over 100.4. A fever could turn to sepsis in a Sickle Cell patient in no time without immediate intervention the flyer highlighted.

The first 3 years of Dylan’s life started out just as the doctors predicted. Starting at 5 months Dylan was hospitalized numerous times and according to the doctors this was what I was to expect for the rest of his life. Doctors speak based on anecdotal experience and hard, what they like to call, facts. They use science to make predictions and sometimes leave their patients with no hope.

My affirmation is I am divinely guided protected and provided for. In that divine guidance I have been led to a holistic path that has been working for Dylan. Every day he takes a comprehensive list of vitamins and herbal supplements which help him stay healthy. We have also overhauled his diet by eliminating dairy and reducing his meat intake almost completely. A healthy diet reduces the stress an unhealthy diet can have on anyone’s body, but even more on a compromised body. Sickle Cell patients have a deficiency in many typical vitamins because their body is in overdrive as they compensate for producing so many new blood cells. Here is the full list of supplements he takes daily.

Everyday I say affirmations of health for myself and Dylan says them with me. While the doctors can’t understand why Dylan isn’t experiencing the same symptoms as his Sickle Cell peers. My only explanation is our faith, our expectation of health and our refusal to accept anything less. Dylan will continue to have a healthy life because we have faith that he will. Its not hope, its a complete knowledge that he will be healthy.

Here are the health affirmations we use daily.

I am here

I am now

I am healthy

I am strong

I am in charge of my health

I am aware of the signals my body gives me

I make healthy mental spiritual and physical choices now

I am divinely guided to what my body needs

I know my body better than anyone

I speak life over my body because my cells can hear me.
